Garden Centre Assistant

With our new retail building due to open shortly, Root One is looking for a full-time assistant to join our friendly and highly productive team.
The successful candidate must be dynamic, reliable and ready to join a thriving garden centre. You must learn new skills quickly and adapt to everchanging day-to-day activities and priorities. Retail experience is not essential but would be welcome as would any previous Horticultural retail experience, although drive, a willingness to take responsibility and an attention to detail are equally as important.
The role is varied and will include till work, customer service, lifting/carrying, helping us keep the high standards of presentation in the shop by cleaning and topping up stock.
This is a full time role, 40 hours per week and does include working alternate weekends. In return we can offer a competitive salary, 28 days holiday and staff discount and inclusion in a contributary pension scheme on completion of your probationary period.

Plant Area Assistant

With our newly extended plant area due to open shortly, Root One is looking for a full-time plant area assistant to join our friendly and highly productive team.
The role will involve maintaining our plant stock to the highest quality whilst also giving excellent customer service and advise.
Ideally you will have experience of working in a busy garden centre plant area or nursery with a strong knowledge of plants from bedding to trees and everything in between. You must be a good communicator, happy to work on your own initiative or within a team and be highly motivated to achieve the highest possible outcome in everything you do. You must be capable of manual work as the role will involve bending, lifting and carrying and also happy to work outside in all weathers.
This is a full time role, 40 hours per week and does include working alternate weekends.
Salary will be £20-£23K dependant on experience with benefits including staff discount and inclusion in a contributary pension scheme on completion of a probationary period.

We are also looking to recruit a plant area assistant  for or a 12 month Maternity Cover role which has the possibility of becoming  a permanent role. 

 

Customer Experience Manager

Due to our recent expansion, Root One Garden Centre is looking for someone to join our team and take the lead on ensuring that all our visitors receive the best possible experience when visiting us.

You will be responsible for coaching the team in all aspects of customer service, whilst also helping to drive sales through product knowledge and eye-catching displays. Shop floor standards including cleanliness and stock levels will be a key responsibility, ensuring that the customer sees what the businesses vision of the centre is.

You will report directly to our Operations Manager and assist him in all day to day running of the Garden Centre and Café as required.
This is a managerial role, and along with some staff management you will also be expected to be a keyholder and Duty Manager. The role involves working alternate weekends with a day off during the week.

Please note that the role is based within our garden shop and is not dealing directly with our plants, although some plant knowledge would be useful. The main areas of responsibility would be the till area and surrounding Gardening shop, along with our Gifting and seasonal area including Furniture/Christmas stock. An understanding of EPOS systems along with Microsoft Office is also essential.

Ideally you will have some Garden Centre retail experience as well as managerial experience at a team leader level or above, although training will be given to the right candidate. A thorough understanding and ability to demonstrate a high level of customer service is essential as well as the skills to pass on the key attributes.

This role is full time and permanent, working 40hrs per week, averaged over a two week rota, salary starting range will be between £26-28000 depending on experience.
